Tovi Foods Commitment to Recycling

Tovi Foods Commitment to Recycling

by Rob Hill on January 05, 2021

The plastic bottles that contain all cooking oils are made from PET plastic and are therefore completely recyclable, however most food manufacturers and retailers do not take responsibility to make sure they are recycled. The used bottles end up in landfill or in the worst case we see them washing up on our beaches and littering the street.

Tovi Foods has made a critical and significant step forward in living up to our environmental responsibility by offering a LKR 20 refund for every empty Tovi cooking oil bottle that is returned to us. When you buy one of our bottles of cooking oil, take it home and make delicious, healthy food; and when empty bring it back to us and we refund you LKR 20.

Tovi Foods then takes on the responsibility to ensure our bottles are fully recycled. Our recycling partner works to clean any residue from the bottle, grind them up and shred them into flakes. These flakes are then melted down into small pallets the size of a grain of rice, and then these pelts are used to make many types of new products and packaging.

Tovi Foods ships a very large quantity of PET plastic bottles but we are absolutely committed to not being a part of the environmental problem but helping to solve the problem. We have designed our recycling program to provide a financial incentive for people to collect our empty bottles and to bring them back. We know that every bottle we sell won’t unfortunately come back to us for recycling but Team Tovi sleep better knowing that we are not sending millions of bottles unnecessarily into landfill.
